Racing games come in all kinds of flavours, and I tend to categorise them in my head as 'Games I've played', 'Games I've heard of' and 'Games with such silly titles they couldn't possibly be worth my time, could they?'

That's all I think about when I see Midtown Madness 3 written down in front of me. "What a silly name. And there are now three of them? Do you guys just churn them out or something?"

There was no chance of me coming across the first two PC titles, and by the time this third one game out exclusively on the Xbox, it was still so far off my radar that I don't know what the game is about to this day. Is it even a racing game?

Panzer Dragoon Orta

There are two titles from the Panzer Dragoon series on this 1001 list, and I've been unable to play both. Panzer Dragoon Orta is the latter title to try, and while it is available for purchase for play on both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, I have been put off doing so from what I've read about the game.

That's not exactly a good start to a post in a series about playing as many of these video games as possible, in as original a way as possible. It's not like it's priced ridiculously, either, and I have definitely spent more money on things that I've gotten less out of than this, potentially, and yet here I am umming and ahhing over it.

Let's see what it's all about, and work out where to go from there.

Steel Battalion

Some of the games on the 1001 list were always going to be hard to play. Arcade exclusives, obscure consoles, digital games lost to the world, that sort of thing. And then there's Steel Battalion, the Xbox Mech piloting simulator that requires a 44 button, two joystick, three-pedal controller set up.

I could drop a hundred-odd pounds on getting a secondhand set, but then I'd be short of an Xbox and a copy of Steel Battalion itself, which are definitely required to play. This one will definitely be a game to watch at this moment in time, and not a game to play.

So what's the fuss all about?
